Laser Tattoo Removal

The Harmony XL Pro™ Q-Switched 1064nm and KTP 532nm is a modifiable laser that can target tattoos of all colours and spectrums including dark and light pigments. During tattoo removal the absorbed laser energy causes a photo-acoustic disruption, breaking down the pigment and colour within the tattoo into smaller particles. As the area heals, the body’s immune system flushes away the shattered ink particles through a process called phagocytosis, causing the tattoo to fade with minimal risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation.

The Harmony XL Pro™ Tattoo Removal system is clinically proven to be both safe and effective. Q-switched lasers are recognised as the only really effective lasers for tattoo removal, as they have the ability to reach the deeper layers of the skin to break down the present pigment.

Our skin is as unique as we are, and the largest organ of the body.

We would all like to have clear, bright and youthful looking skin, but sometimes there are specific skin concerns which can compromise the look and health of our complexion, leading to feelings of self-consciousness and anxiety.

Ageing, chronic conditions such as acne, acne scarring and rosacea as well as sun damage, can all take their toll on our skin and our wellbeing. At Leicester MediSpa, we offer a range of FDA approved laser and light technologies to safely treat a range of skin conditions, so you can look and feel your best, without going under the knife or having to take time off work to recover.

Frequently asked questions

Does the treatment hurt?

Tattoo removal can be moderately painful however it is a very quick treatment. We usually say that if you were able to have a tattoo, you will be able to handle tattoo removal. A medium or large tattoo can be treated in a matter of minutes. However, a topical anaesthetic can be applied, prior to your treatment to minimise any discomfort.

During the treatment, it is common to feel a hot zapping sensation whilst the area is being treated. This can be likened to the sensation of a hot elastic band being snapped against the skin. There may be some heat in the area following treatment, but this will dissipate quickly. Each treatment becomes less painful as we break down the pigment throughout the duration of your course of treatments.

Are there any side effects with Harmony XL PRO™ Tattoo Removal?

Following tattoo removal with Harmony XL Pro ™ you may experience some blistering, scabbing, swelling and heat sensation in the treated area. Although this can appear worrying it is a normal occurrence with tattoo removal and will disappear. A dry or paraffin gauze dressing may be used to cover the area if needed but this is mainly to keep the area safe from any potential friction. You should let the area heal and avoid touching the area.

In your first few sessions, there will be some frosting. This happens when the cells holding the ink pigment rupture, water is released from the skin and rises to the surface causing the frosting. This is temporary and can be wiped away gently after treatment. It does not affect your treatment nor is it necessary to have frosting for your treatment to be effective.

Is there any aftercare required?

You should keep the treated area clean and ensure clothes do not rub against the treated area. You should avoid hot baths, saunas, or other extremes of temperature for 72 hours. Swimming and UV exposure should be avoided in between treatments and until the area is fully healed and you must not scratch or pick at the skin as this may cause an infection. You will be provided with bespoke after care advice post treatment by your specialist laser practitioner here at Leicester MediSpa.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of sessions required to remove the tattoo will depend on the type (amateur or professional), size, age, location, and the depth as well as type of pigment used. Typically, most patients require 8-12 sessions at intervals of 6-10 weeks apart. Therefore, the duration of your treatment course can take place over several months.
