First Class Laser Hair Removal at Leicester Medispa

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a device-led treatment for unwanted or excessive hair on the face and body. It utilises specific wavelengths of light energy to target the hair follicle, the energy from the laser is converted into heat damaging the follicle and hindering the re-growth of the hair.

The result is significant with a permanent reduction in hair growth allowing individuals to achieve smooth hair free skin all year round. In many cases, patients find they no longer worry about excessive hair again, following a course of treatment.

Why Soprano Titanium?

Soprano Titanium is a breakthrough in hair removal which combines ultimate functionality with unparalleled comfort. It has a large 4cm applicator and the most advanced continuous contact cooling system that Alma have developed, to date.

Treatments are superlatively fast and pain-free, offering a significant improvement in treatment time and comfort, for you. Soprano Titanium combines the three most effective laser wavelengths (ALEX 755nm, Diode 810nm, YAG 1064nm) for ultimate hair reduction, to a single applicator, simultaneously targeting various tissue depths and anatomical structures within the hair follicle.

By combining the absorption and penetration levels of various wavelengths, along with improved treatment coverage and increased cooling for your ultimate comfort, Soprano Titanium is the quickest, safest and most effective hair removal treatment available today.

Frequently asked questions

Where on the body can Soprano Titanium laser hair removal treat?

Due to the variety of treatment handpieces available with Soprano Titanium, we can now target most areas of the body.
The ergonomic handpieces also allow effective hair removal of very small difficult to target areas such as the ears, eyebrows, and nose.

It is worth noting that laser hair removal is generally more effective on dark hair particularly when there is a contrast between hair and skin colour. Lighter hair colours such as grey or white may not respond as effectively to laser treatment.

Am I suitable for laser hair removal with Soprano Titanium?

Alma Laser’s SHR™ (Super Hair Removal) is the safest method of hair removal, suitable for all skin types, including dark and tanned skin. SHR™ affects the melanin of the skin using a unique method, allowing the procedure to be performed at any time of the year, as well as on tanned skin. Sun exposure is less traumatic to the skin, following treatment than other laser hair removal devices.

Therefore, most patients can enjoy a course of laser hair removal treatments with Soprano Titanium, here at Leicester MediSpa. However, we will always ask that you attend a no obligation consultation, where one of our specialist laser practitioners can discuss your individual concerns, perform a full assessment and develop a bespoke treatment plan for you.

We will also check your medical history, to ensure there are no medical reasons which may prevent or restrict the treatment from going ahead and then perform a patch test at least 24 hours before your first treatment.

What are the contraindications to laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal with Soprano Titanium is a safe, effective, and virtually pain free treatment, so most patients will be able to enjoy the benefits. However, there are some contraindications which could restrict or prevent the treatment from going ahead. You will be requested to disclose your medical history prior to treatment, in a no obligation consultation here at Leicester MediSpa.

We require all patients to have a patch test at least 24 hours prior to starting a course of treatments, this can be done during your initial consultation. The patch test is essential to ensure you do not react adversely to laser treatment and to ensure the correct settings are utilised.

Contraindications include :

  • Pregnancy & breast feeding
  • Active infections
  • Active cold sores, open lacerations or abrasions
  • Skin Cancer
  • Chemical or powder burns on the treatment area
  • Poor blood circulation (heavy leg syndrome)
  • Use of certain medications
  • Accutane use in the last 6 months

How do I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?

  • The treatment area/s should be shaved 24 hours prior to treatment
  • Attend your appointment with clean skin and no make up to the areas being treated.
  • Avoid the use of creams, lotions, oils, and perfumes to the areas being lasered on the day of the treatment.
  • Do not use any fake tans or wash-off tans before treatment – your skin must be its natural colour.
  • Stop any active topicals (e.g. Steroids/Retinoids) on the treatment area 72 hours prior to treatment
  • Avoid waxing, plucking, bleaching, and threading. It is best to let the hair grow and shave prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid active UV exposure (sunlight or sunbeds). We will not be able to treat any areas that are burnt or peeled until one week after they are fully healed
  • Wear loose fitting comfortable clothes on the day
  • Advise your practitioner of any changes in health, medication, or supplement usage

We will discuss how to prepare for the procedure during your initial consultation. For the initial consultation and patch test, you will not need to prepare the area as this will be done by your laser therapist.

What happens during a treatment and is there any downtime?

Your specialist laser practitioner will begin by dry brushing the appropriate treatments areas allowing any ingrown hairs to be brought to the surface. Your skin will be cleansed, and a cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area. Your practitioner will then pass a specifically chosen applicator head over this area and the wavelengths of light will penetrate your skin.

You will be wearing goggles to protect your eyes, throughout this treatment. Once the treatment applicator has been passed completely over the specific area/s, the gel will be cleansed, and you will be able to return to your daily activities immediately.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

The SHR™ gradual heating and single pulse delivery method effectively damages the hair follicle and hinders re-growth without causing injury to the surrounding tissues. The improved cooling technology means that where laser hair removal used to be an uncomfortable experience for many, using the Soprano Titanium offers virtually pain-free hair removal and significantly fewer side-effects such as redness or skin soreness. You may experience a warm sensation during treatment, and maybe some discomfort to the more sensitive areas.

Redness and sensitivity can occur to the treated areas but should disappear within 24 hours. Your specialist laser practitioner will go through any expected risks with you as well as provide you with specific aftercare information.

How many treatments will I need?

There are several factors which will determine how many treatments you might need. These include:

  • The area/s to be treated
  • The colour of your skin
  • The colour of your hair (follicles – the light targets the follicles and not the hair shaft)
  • The thickness of your hair (strength of your hair follicles)
  • Any medical conditions (e.g. polycystic ovary syndrome)
  • Your individual response to treatment

The estimated number of treatments that will be required for maximum results will be discussed in your initial consultation with our specialist laser therapists, here at Leicester MediSpa. Our skin and laser therapists have gained years of experience working for various clinics before being selected to work as part of the Leicester MediSpa team. We usually recommend starting your laser hair removal journey with a course of 6 sessions to see a significant reduction in hair growth.

When will I see the results and how long do they last?

We normally recommend starting with a course of 6 sessions, as laser hair removal only affects the hairs which are at the anagen phase of growth (around 10 to 30% at any time). A treatment is therefore recommended once every 4 to 8 weeks to the face and 6 to 8 weeks to the body. Most patients will start to see a significant difference usually after the third treatment.

Once you have completed a course of treatment, your hair free period can last anywhere from several months usually up to a year. Once this result is achieved, we recommend top up sessions once or twice a year to maintain results. It is important to note that hormonal changes in the body (such as menopause) can mean that sometimes hair follicles can be stimulated, resulting in hair growth.
