Dermal fillers are liquid/gel-like substances which contain hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring sugar which is found within the body in areas such as the joints, the eyes, connective tissues and the skin.
As we get older, our HA levels diminish, leading to collagen loss, dehydrated and sagging skin, lines, wrinkles, facial hollows and loss of dermal elasticity. When we inject dermal fillers in to the skin, we replace the lost HA, as well as physically augment the skin tissues.
Dermal fillers act as a supporting material, restoring facial volume loss therefore improving the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, filling hollows in areas such as the temples, re-shaping facial contours such as the cheeks, chin, jawline and nose and rehydrating the skin in the weeks that follow the treatment.
Extensive clinical research has shown that HA dermal fillers are both safe and effective due to their excellent biocompatibility and reversibility.
Dermal fillers are enormously versatile and perform a myriad of actions within the facial tissues. The most popular treatments we offer here at Leicester MediSpa include:-
Before we can advise on whether you will be suitable for dermal filler injections, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation and facial analysis, with one of our medical practitioners.
During the consultation we will discuss your individual facial concerns and goals. We can advise on which dermal fillers might be suitable for your unique requirements and together develop an effective treatment plan bespoke to you. We will also check your medical history in order to make sure that there are no medical contraindications which could prevent or restrict your dermal filler injection treatment from going ahead.
Once we are satisfied that dermal fillers will be suitable and safe for you to undergo, we will be able to book you in for your treatment.
Prior to your dermal filler injections, a topical anaesthetic will be applied to the treatment area/s, in order to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment.
The dermal fillers we use contain a local anaesthetic to provide further pain relief. As with any treatment using a needle or cannula, there can be some slight discomfort or sensations (such as initial tugging or pulling), but you should not feel severe pain. If at any time you are experiencing discomfort, you can let your practitioner know and they will be able to apply more topical anaesthetic, or offer an injectable anaesthetic if necessary.
There are very few medical side-effects with dermal filler injections, however, as with any injectable treatment, you may experience some pain, swelling, slight bruising, tenderness and redness at the injection sites. This is completely normal and the use of ice packs, arnica gel and avoiding extreme heat such as hot saunas or steam and alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours after your treatment will help to avoid excessive symptoms. You will be provided with specific post procedure advice to help achieve optimum results.
We advise you to plan treatments around social commitments, allowing at least two weeks between treatments and any social events.
Initial results will be seen straight away, as dermal fillers sit innately within the skin tissues. However, you may need to allow for any initial swelling to pass, before you see the full results. Sometimes dermal fillers need to settle, soften, and integrate within the skin tissues, this may take up to 2 weeks.
In general, the effects of dermal fillers can last between 6 -24 months on average. The longevity of your results really does depend on several factors:
