Anti-wrinkle injections

The hands of time can bring many facial changes, many of us will begin to feel a desire to slow down the ageing process, not only through the use of premium skincare and a healthy lifestyle, but with the help of non-surgical in-clinic treatments, such as injectables.

Wrinkle-smoothing injections (more commonly known as Botox® injections), offer a quick and minimally invasive solution for lines and wrinkles that appear when we create facial expressions, such as laughing, frowning or looking surprised. Lines such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, glabellar lines and frown lines can be temporarily softened and smoothed by this treatment.

However, there are many other facial concerns that can be corrected with wrinkle-smoothing injections. Here at Leicester MediSpa, we offer a range of treatments using Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox®) to slow the hands of time, for a more youthful, refreshed complexion without invasive surgery.

At Leicester MediSpa, we offer safe and effective Botulinum Toxin anti-wrinkle injections that are only prescribed and administered by our medical practitioners. We do not believe in the frozen look, our skilled technique gently softens lines, so you still have natural movement in your face.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections harness the muscle relaxing properties of a protein called Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox® is simply a brand name for the substance; there are multiple brands available).

When expertly injected in to specific areas of the face, this neurotoxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals to the facial muscles which cause dynamic expression lines.

Once injected, the treatment takes between 48 to 72 hours and up to 2 weeks to see the full effect. The results typically last between 3 to 6 months at a time.

Which facial conditions can anti-wrinkle injections treat?

It’s commonly known that Botulinum Toxin Type A can help smooth wrinkles caused by facial expressions, such as forehead lines, frown lines and those pesky wrinkles around the corners of the eyes referred to as crow’s feet, but this versatile injectable can also help with the following facial concerns:

Brow lift – Botox® injections can actually help lift the brows, for a more refreshed and wide-awake appearance.

Bunny lines – when we smile, we may see vertical lines down the sides of the nose. Botox® can smooth these lines for several months at a time.

Gummy smile – when injected into the upper lip area, Botox® can correct a gummy smile. This treatment, teamed with dermal fillers can not only fix the gummy smile, but increase the volume and correct the shape of the lips.

Vertical lip lines – whether obtained due to lifestyle choices such as sunbathing or smoking, vertical lip lines can be incredibly ageing. Injecting small amounts of Botox® into this area can smooth and reduce lip lines, for a more pleasing lip appearance.

Chin dimpling (or cobbled chin) – seen mostly when speaking, a cobbled chin can give an ageing appearance to the face. Injecting specific areas of the chin with Botox® can considerably reduce this dimpling.

Jaw slimming – when injected in to the jaw muscles (masseters), Botox® can actually help to slim down a square-looking chin for a slimmer, more feminine facial shape.

Bruxism – teeth grinding can create over-stimulated masseter muscles, which can create a square appearance to the jaw, as well as potentially damaging the teeth and causing headaches. Botox® helps to relax the muscles in this area, reducing the ability to grind the teeth or clench the jaw, easing the symptoms of this condition whilst creating a more pleasing facial shape.

Nefertiti neck lift – if you are noticing that your lower face and neck is beginning to show the signs of ageing, with vertical lines and sagging skin Botox® injections can smooth these lines, giving the appearance of a neck lift, without invasive surgery and improving jawline definition.

Downturned mouth corners – caused either by genetics or the ageing process, a downturned mouth can make us look permanently sad. This can be quickly and easily remedied with the use of Botox® injections, lifting the corners of the mouth.

Hyperhidrosis – Excessive sweating, medically referred to as ‘hyperhidrosis’, can profoundly affect self-consciousness. Botulinum toxin injections can help to control the symptoms of severe underarm sweating. When injected into the skin, Botox® works by blocking the chemical signals that stimulate the sweat glands. This can help reduce excessive sweating in the treated areas.

Frequently asked questions

Am I suitable for anti-wrinkle injections?

Before a treatment with Botox® can take place, here at Leicester MediSpa, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation with one of our medical practitioners. This meeting is your opportunity to discuss with your medical practitioner, your facial concerns and whether Botox® would be an appropriate solution.
Your medical practitioner will also check your medical history and fascial muscle activity, to ensure this treatment is safe for you.
Once it is confirmed that the treatment is not only going to be effective, but there are no contraindications which may restrict or prevent your Botox® treatment from going ahead, you may book your treatment appointment.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Anti-wrinkle injections are administered using extremely fine needles and do not go deep, therefore, a topical anaesthetic is not generally required.

If you are particularly sensitive or worried about discomfort, speak with your Leicester MediSpa medical practitioner about the options available.

The treatment is completed quickly and extremely well tolerated by patients.

Is there any downtime and are there any side-effects?

Botox is a prescription only medication and only a medically qualified licensed practitioner can prescribe Botox.
The amount of Botox used in each injection is minimal. However, as with any treatment using a needle, you may experience light swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness at the injection sites.
There is no real downtime, and you can resume daily activities immediately.
You will be provided with aftercare instructions to follow post procedure.

How long does a Botox® treatment last?

This all depends on you as an individual and how you respond to the substance. If you are someone who takes care of your skin, does not sunbathe in strong UV light, doesn’t smoke and eats a healthy diet, you may experience your results to last anything from 4 to 6 months. However, your medical practitioner will discuss the expected longevity of your results, in your initial consultation.
