The power of infrared light therapy has long been known for assisting with anti-ageing and healing. At Leicester MediSpa, we have taken this concept to a whole new level installing a full spectrum, infrared sauna for up to two people to optimise overall skin and health benefits to our patients.
Full spectrum saunas are highly popular for their unique ability to enhance overall health and wellness on a cellular level. The benefits include improved heart health, detoxification, stress reduction, accelerated overall healing, improved muscle recovery and pain management and improved skin condition. We have painstakingly researched the very best full spectrum saunas and have chosen the Clearlight Sanctuary Sauna for our patients, here at Leicester MediSpa.
Infrared light therapy is a form of holistic treatment that uses infrared light to promote healing within the body. Infrared light is not a form of the visible light spectrum. Instead, we feel it as heat, as the energy emitted from infrared light stimulates the water in our bodies to generate energy which is felt as warmth. Whilst infrared radiation does not emit visible light, we know it as part of what is called the ‘electromagnetic spectrum’. Don’t be alarmed by the word ‘radiation’, as infrared is non-ionising, meaning that it is not harmful. Infrared therapy is often used in conjunction with other forms of holistic treatments, such as massage and acupuncture, halotherapy, and other infrared light modalities.
The Clearlight Sanctuary Sauna is unlike any other. It offers ground-breaking innovation and a contemporary design. Clearlight is the only true full spectrum, infrared sauna, which offers advanced near, mid, and far infrared technologies. The robust Clearlight True Wave™ full spectrum heating system is the safest and most effective available providing all wavelengths 100% of the time, to optimize your sauna session.
The Clearlight Sanctuary offers the maximum wavelengths at all times without the use of any ‘programmes’ which you may have heard other infrared saunas promoting. While the idea of ‘programmes’ sounds great; the body is too complex to detox one day, lose weight the next day, then relieve muscle pain with the switch of a button. Clearlight saunas are designed to offer all the benefits with every session instead of trying to “dial in” to a specific benefit, we believe in whole-body therapy.
Clearlight infrared saunas are the only infrared saunas that cancel out both EMF and ELF, more commonly known as ‘dirty electricity’. As proven, by the best testing record in the industry. This state-of-the-art, infrared sauna has Bluetooth and AUX connectivity with built-in stereo speakers alongside a in-built medical-grade chromotherapy system, comprising of 96 LED lights with an array of 12 colours.
Chromotherapy also known as colour therapy utilises coloured light wavelengths that therapeutically benefit mood and energy. There is growing evidence that Chromotherapy can play a pivotal role in the treatment of reducing stress and anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders or imbalances.
Detoxification – Sweating is one of the body’s safest and most natural ways to heal and maintain good health. Infrared saunas heat the body from the inside, promoting sweating, helping to flush out toxins and impurities. Alternative medicine widely embraces sauna detox. Researchers have long told us how the body sweats out toxin build-up, including heavy metals. As long as you maintain proper hydration, the more you safely sweat, the more toxicants you’ll expel from your skin and body.
Stress and fatigue reduction, elevating mood – Infrared sauna therapy promotes relaxation by helping to balance your body’s level of cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. The heat generated by the sauna will also help to relax muscles and relieve tension throughout the body, allowing you to relax and de-stress. Research has also suggested regular sauna use can stimulate the release of endorphins; hormones that reduce stress while promoting feelings of well-being.
Muscle recovery including stiffness and joint pain improvement – Heat, in itself, is great for recovery and temporary pain relief. Infrared heats the body from within and increases circulation and blood flow. Good circulation is critical for proper healing. Red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to the site of the strain or inflammation. The more red and white blood cells that can get delivered to muscles, the quicker they repair. Research has found Infrared sauna therapy to be effective in reducing chronic pain, particularly in conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
Assisting with weight loss and increased metabolism – The heat from the sauna can increase heart rate, metabolic rate, and promote sweating, which may contribute to calorie burning. When the body is exposed to infrared it activates the hypothalamus – a part of the brain responsible for regulating hormone production. This can lead to an increase in cortisol levels, which can help to reduce inflammation and support a healthy metabolism. At the same time, increased circulation through dilation of blood vessels and increased blood flow delivers more oxygen and nutrients to cells in the body, which can help to support the production of hormones involved in weight loss. Infrared saunas can support weight loss efforts indirectly. While using an infrared sauna alone won’t lead to significant weight loss, it can be a complementary component of a comprehensive weight loss plan.
Improving skin condition – Photobiomodulation uses invisible, near infrared (NIR) wavelengths to deliver energy to cells. Research shows specific light frequencies have specific activity. NIR has the perfect wavelength to penetrate skin best. When NIR is applied to the skin, fibroblast cells absorb the light activity, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Over time, those increases create thicker, younger-looking skin, promoting skin renewal, cell health and tissue growth. Furthermore, sweating opens up pores, flushing out impurities and promoting clearer, more radiant skin. Increased blood flow also delivers vital nutrients to the skin, promoting a healthy complexion.
Improving heart health – Infrared sauna sessions raise your heart rate and increase circulation. This replicates a cardiovascular workout we term “passive cardio.” In fact, blood flow during infrared sauna use may rise from a normal rate of 5 litres/minute to up to 12 litres/minute. Your heart is a muscle; working it makes it stronger. A stronger cardiovascular system helps capillaries deliver more oxygen to muscle cells.
Boosting the immune system – Your body naturally defends itself. During a fever, body temperature rises and strengthens the immune system. It’s a signal to white blood cells and the body’s antiviral army of lymphocytes, neutrophils and interferons to come to the rescue. Increased body temp may also help fight infections as it stimulates heat shock proteins that deter viruses from reproducing and reduces inflammatory cytokine proteins.
Helping to improve sleep – Infrared sauna therapy enhances detox pathways increases circulation and improves mitochondria function all of which help the whole body work better and thus help sleep, too.
Infrared saunas work in a different way to traditional saunas by raising the body temperature directly, rather than heating the surrounding air which then heats the skin and eventually the body.
Whilst traditional saunas may have higher temperatures, they do not offer as many health benefits as an infrared sauna. The benefit of infrared exposure is that your cells are directly heated by the infrared energy. What’s more, traditional saunas can be uncomfortable, claustrophobic, and difficult to breathe in, due to their temperatures reaching in excess of 80°C.
Infrared sauna cabins offer far lower temperatures and are a much more comfortable alternative, gently and directly heating the body’s deeper tissues.
Infrared light therapy can be enjoyed by patients of all ages, and it is a wonderful, non-invasive, pain-free way to promote overall health and well-being.
The thermal energy produced by the Clearlight infrared waves is completely safe since there are no harmful wavelengths of ‘sunlight’ (UV) produced by our infrared technology. It’s just a natural, gentle, therapeutic warmth.
A pre-treatment consultation will be required with one of our practitioners where we will go through your medical history as well as any concerns. You will be required to complete a consent form before we can go ahead with your first sauna treatment session. Infrared therapy is safe for most of our patients to use. However, there are a few people that should avoid its use.
Infrared sauna use is contraindicated for people with following conditions:
Certain conditions may also require clearance from your doctor before you can use the sauna for the first time. This includes the following –
If you have or have had any major health conditions you should consult your doctor.
Please consult the front of house team before booking if you have any queries.
Use of the Clearlight Sanctuary sauna can be regular and ongoing for continued health benefits. However, the number of treatments we recommend for your specific body concerns, can be discussed in your initial pre-treatment consultation, prior to use of the sauna. Generally, we recommend you begin with 20 minutes and work your way up to 30 minutes per session if appropriate for you.
Prior to your first sauna session, you will be required to complete a medical history form as well as a consent form, before we can go ahead with your first sauna treatment session.
One of our practitioners will show you to your private infrared sauna space. Before you begin your sauna session, you will need to change into your swimming costume. Next, you can select your choice of chromotherapy colour and enter the sauna.
During your infrared sauna session, you will notice that you are sweating, which will assist the body in detoxification. After your sauna session, you will be able to have a quick shower, if you wish to do so. We have two showers available for use within the private sauna space. It is recommended to change into light loose clothing, since you may continue to sweat after your session.
It is always important to maintain proper hydration levels during Infrared therapy. Dehydration will actually increase carbohydrate utilization and cause less fat to be burned for energy. It is therefore important to drink lots of water before and after your sauna session.
Male clients will need to bring a change of shorts. Female clients will need to bring a swimming costume. Towels are provided but you are free to bring your own.
You may feel and see some improvements after your first session of use with the Clearlight Sanctuary sauna. Many of our patients report glowing skin immediately afterwards and sleep better, the night of their treatment. With regular use however, the Clearlight Sanctuary sauna can help you to maintain but also improve the benefits of treatment, such as clearer skin and improved symptoms of chronic pain or soreness.
